British Airways cancels flights to Abu Dhabi due to the problematic "Trent 1000 Package C" inspections

提交時間:

London - British Airways has canceled up to a dozen flights on its London-Abu Dhabi route over a period of three weeks. The cancellations, which are due to be in effect next week, will continue until the first week of June. The decision is mainly due to the problems the British flag carrier faces with the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engines installed on its Boeing 787 Dreamliners. (airlinerwatch.com) 更多...

Probably sent to the airlines too soon to get the jump on GE engines when more testing should have done.Having said that the "high bypass" engine is a great forward design .

The problem with any engine is you run it through the certification process and at the end if you realize something needs changed it is pretty onerous to make the change and re-certify it. This is especially true for a new design engine.

And of course, real world use doesn't always match what you see in computer models and test chambers.

I'm sure the RR engineers will ultimately get the design right. It will just take some time and with just two hanging off the wings, you got to stay on the safe side to insure passenger and crew safety if you have to shut one down.

Should have used the GE engines! They perform exceptionally and haven't had any issues.

Mmmm, looks like the whole 787 development cycle was rushed a bit. The type has a history of problems that look a lot like over agressive development schedules, for both airframe and suppliers.
