So they thought the leak was bad enough to declare an emergency, but then park the aircraft right among other parked aircraft and right next to the building? If I was the fire unit that responded, I would have asked him to park out on the open ramp away from other aircraft and structures.

I would of done the same the exact same thing.

The thing he should have done was to shut down as soon as he had it on the ground along with the fuel and let the fire unit come to him. Also if he had pulled the chute there was a good chance it would have ended up in a house if you look at whats below when he declared. And seems trying to convince the tower that you are declaring is hard twice is enough as things can be busy in the AC .

Exactly, your can even hear him after takeoff saying "I smell fuel" or something like that. If I was him I would of aborted the takeoff even if I was past my V2 speed he had plenty of runway.

You should've pulled the chute.

The chute is a last resort in a Cirrus and he probably would have been injured because of how low he was. The CAPS (Cirrus Aircraft Parachute System) minimum safety altitude is 4,500 FT AGL meaning if you are below it you chances of surviving are slim.

You have to be kidding as that would be the last thing to do if you want to get on the ground fast.
