It might be an idea to start with the B787 or similar aircraft with middle seats blocked for the interim just to get back in the game. You can check my math but without the middle seats a typical B787 would carry an 80% load factor with remaining seats full. Initial routing joining domestic cities coast to coast via a milk run scenario complemented by direct non stop for connected major cities. Albeit a greatly reduced schedule but feasible. At least the new generation aircraft are more fuel efficient and would carry a bigger load than the single aisle A320, B737, EMB aircraft which may require a higher load factor to break even? Performance on a lightly loaded (fuel) B787 and additional space for cargo in the cans may even yield higher profits? International may still be profitable enough even at 80% load factor, however frequency would need specific attention at least initially. Just thinking out load during this awful pandemic!
