You know what would be a better release? A Droid app ;)

Agreed with Zach. I think a droid app would be way more useful and beneficial than the facebook app.

Hmmm...nice to let potential burglars know when you will be out of town...

I watched an instructional video on facebook and it suggests not to add burglars to your facebook friend list. Or maybe it said you should add them to placate them. I don't remember, I will watch the video again and update.

Jim, I always make sure to block the burglars in my friend list before I go out of town.

Thanks for all the sarcasm...guess Facebook has had little or no problems with security and sharing your information lately. Of course your friends list will prevent all these problems.

I think they're all in good fun, Jim. Facebook tends to offer a lot of controls about the release of your information and originally was very friends-only. We're looking into the possibility of further restricting access to posts by the FlightAware app.

The purpose of the app is to "share your travel plans or the whereabouts of your plane on Facebook automatically."

Using the app allows FlightAware to "post status messages, notes, photos, and videos to my Wall". Okay. I can see that. That's the purpose of the app, or at least the part about posting status messages. What I don't understand is why FlightAware would need to access my data at any time. Is this for marketing?

The "offline_access" permission (access at any time) is required for us to publish the status messages when you are not in front of your computer. By default, most access tokens expire after a short time period to ensure applications only make requests on behalf of the user when the are actively using the application. You can see [http://developers.facebook.com/docs/authentication/permissions offline_access under the publishing permissions].

Don't do it. See what the army says about posting to facebook etc.
go to www.army.mil and search the following:

Social Media Roundup
Geotags and Location-
Based Social Networking
Applications, OPSEC and protecting unit safety

if you want to broadcast where you are and what you are doing and where you airplane is and where it's going that's your business but you should think twice.
