(Funny) Single-engine plane makes hard landing in Florida neighborhood
His Cirrus SR20 plane hit some mailboxes, small trees and a fence. No one was injured in the landing. "He said, 'We land here all the time ... this is Pilot Country.' And I'm like, 'No. It's not. This is a horse community and you got them mixed up,'" Torro recalls. (www.wtsp.com) 更多...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
what the heck
Original reports that the pilot was just a student are incorrect. He actually has had his Private certificate for about 5 months.
What baffles me is that he relied solely on his GPS for navigation. It's just further proof that today's pilots are relying too much on technology rather than flying skill.
Here are some pictures I took showing the damage to the Cirrus.

Forget about the Gps as a reason to land, The Mark 10 Eyeball should be able to determine that mail boxes are NOT runway lights.
Which is, incidentally, the reason primary students *ought* to be trained in GPS. They just can't rely on it as their sole means of navigation.
Sounds like there's been attempts to land here before this one. I can think of a very simple fix of painting a big "X" at either end of the street.
Yup, an "X" on each end of the road ought to do the trick
