I'm going to wait and see. Mind you, I went out and bought FSX on the very first day in Fall '06. Also mind you, my computer is eight years old and I have some cash invested in scenery and aircraft. At this point, I have no idea if they will be compatible with the new platform. Looking forward to the reviews.

The bad news is that nothing from FSX will be compatible.

The good news is that you don't have to buy scenery since FS2020 uses Microsoft's vast database of satellite and aerial images, which is downloaded as needed for the area you fly in.

The only thing you could pay extra for are additional hand-crafted airports and aircraft. The handful of additional airports in particular will probably only be of interest to a few people -- if you're looking for your home airport, it will probably already be there as a automatically modeled airport and be close enough to the real thing.

Additional aircraft are a different story though, if you want something that's not included in the basic package you're going to have to pay for it, either Microsoft or third-parties. Microsoft is adding an online store where third-party vendors will be able to make them available for purchase and download. Only addons that meet quality requirements and are certified will be offered, so the problems that plagued many FSX addons should be a thing of the past.
