73-3300 —
Willy Field McMurdo Station: This is the aircraft that took myself and the Command Chief of the Air National Guard to the South Pole in December 2005. You can get a good look at nose gear ski and the nose wheel
Comments
I'm guessing the skids were fitted prior to departure to Antarctica? Does that mean the plane flies that leg with the gear down?
The ski's on this aircraft are a permanent modification. The gear retract at least partially into the aircraft, with the skis acting as a gear door.
