This aircraft had been part of the static display and open for inspection when I arrived in the morning.
Not apparent in this side on shot is the rudder deflection. Photos leading to this showed quite a marked starboard offset. I don’t recall it being that windy, but the rudder angle would suggest otherwise.
This was taken on my first DSLR, a Nikon D70s which did not handle contrast too well. Thankfully Nikon have vastly improved their product!
Nice shot! A crowd pleaser for sure. Probably have seen this beauty on approach to LAX as they fly over Catalina Island, cross over mainland close to my house then north to LAX.
Unbelievable!! What a shot!! How SWEET is THAT?! And how lucky were all the folks in that crowd? And where were you that you were able to have elevation enough to be above them to get this stunning scene? 20 stars for one of the very best clicks of the Queen that I've ever seen.
Thanks Gary. That airshow has grandstands and if you pay 'gold' admission, you can book and secure a grandstand seat. Book early enough and you can get up in the back row which was where I was.
