Cutting back on engine and prop noise so your ears are not being traumatized by weedeater-like noise at 80db or more for an hour or two would be a huge step in the right direction.

The breathalyzer test may be a good idea, shouldn't add much to the time required

If it is the pressure changes, a former USAF cargo pilot told me the way to quiet them down - give them their bottle for a while (what it is filled with is not relevant). Sucking on the bottle naturally causes the pressure in a baby's ears to equalize, thus putting an end to the discomfort and associated noise. Nursing has the same effect, but could be a bit awkward just before landing in a cramped airline seat.

That is the real shame of this situation, those who designed and built that tower were not nearly as dedicated to their jobs as this young man was. They did not do their jobs properly, and he pays the ultimate price just doing his job properly. Hopefully Indonesia improves their building codes as a result.

If true, a brilliant one, at least for Cathay Pacific

Actually SWA has announced they will be starting Hawaii service in the near future, they just have yet to mention details like which west coast airports will be their gateways, what the destinations will be, or even precisely when service will begin. Might not be so much SWA smelling blood as Allegiant seeing the writing on the wall.

I don't know about 'obscene' but they are definitely going after the absurdly wealthy crowd that is used to doing most of their flying in private jets. If that is what they are going for with their first class product, they appear to have hit the nail on the head. Even business class looks mighty posh to me.

Depends on who you are comparing pilot salaries to. If its to someone who makes millions yearly throwing a ball around, you are right, $200k/yr for a pilots salary is a joke. Of course I can think of few careers, that require years of expensive education, where peoples lives or at least futures are in someones hands, that cannot imagine in their wildest dreams making $200k/yr. Really a sad commentary on the state of our society, and its priorities.
