I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Kelleher. I did however write to him regarding my experience when traveling on Southwest. I used to fly to Florida every 3 months to visit my father. I always used the same flight. I traveled frequently enough that the gate attendants, and flight crews knew me by name. I wrote to Mr. Kelleher and received personal responses. I always was very pleased by flying southwest.

I don't understand. You have no money to pay pilots, flight attendants, or ground crew, but there is money to repaint aircraft. Everyone was forced to accept pay cuts, lose pensions and the airline has money to repaint the livery. I am confused. I know the CEO, COO etc gave up their salary and other million dollar perks.

Happy Holidays everyone. I have read thru all the comments. I have found something lacking in all the comments. I am a SW customer. I live in Philly and have a choice of who to fly with and I always use SW ( I am lucky they frly to my destinations). How come no one mentioned the fact that SW turns their planes around super fast. Have you ever really paid attention to the speed at which their aircraft is serviced? I have and they can have a plane arrive, service it and get back int he aire in 20 minutes, mayb a 1/2 hour. It is like watching a NASCAR pit crew. The fact is that an airplane sitting on the ground is not revenue producing, only an aircraft in the air is revenue producing. By turning an aircraft around from arrival to leaving the gateas quickly as they do at SW, they get to maximize the use of their aircraft. The next time you sit in a terminal look and compare how fast a plane arrives at the gate and leaves for the next flight.

I don't know allot about the endurance of a P-3 vs the new P-8. However with aerial refueling the aircraft can stay aloft for extended periods of time. What I have read is everyone discussing the duration of the mission, but no one has mentioned the stores that can be carried. Is the P-8 able to carry more munitions, more varied types of munitions then the P-3? I will agree that turboprops can often be the better alternative then pure jets. However if the airframes are getting to point where they are too costly to keep airworthy, then a replacement had to be found. My thought is that I am very happy that the Navy ordered a Boeing aircraft then some type of Airbus. Please note yes the RN=Registered Nurse, but prior to that BS Aeronautical Engineering Class of '75. I have some feel for what I am expressing. What amazes me is the lack of winglets on the P-8 in the video. Everything I have read states the winglets increase range, cut down on drag and turbulence at the wingtip. Who missed th
