Suspected sabotage at Cathay Pacific
Hong Kong's flag carrier Cathay Pacific suspended Dozens of cabin crew members after third Cathay flight found with empty oxygen tanks before take-off. (airlinerwatch.com) 更多...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
The Quality/ Safety Department conduct an investigation re O2 tank maintenance. It is not just the crew responsibility, but the maintenance personnel who released the aircraft to service. I do not think this is sabotage, more like complacency on the inspection.
I'd figure it's the stewards with hangovers sucking up the O2 to get relief. It takes a long time to drain a bottle unless using a mask with a demand button on it to take full O2 shots to feel better.
Most likely!
That's crazy. Cathay had it coming though. Not saying this was right but what do you expect when you give the middle finger to an overwhelming majority of a country? It was a tough spot the airline was in no doubt but picking the CCP over oppressed citizens was wrong.
Unfortunate for the suspended crew members if most of them were not guilty, which is likely the case. If it were sabotage, probably one or two persons did it.
It is a terrorist act. If terrorist acts are now to be equated with civil protest then it is the end of the civilized society which made air travel a reality. What if they break the AED defibrillators and re-package them as new equipment? The cabin crew use these oxygen bottles to administer life saving care in the event of depressurization. There are about 50 such depressurization events annually among civilian and military aircraft. Hypoxia is horrible.
