Delta Airlines passengers had the scare of their lives Friday night when a flight from Boston to Salt Lake City encountered bad weather over eastern Colorado, with hail that caused significant damage to the aircraft's nose and windshield. (www.weather.com) 更多...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
WOW-THAT IS INCREDIBLE HOW MUCH DAMAGE!
Another 10 mile deviation to the south and he is clear of the weather. Why was this guy cutting it so close? Not a hero in my mind, more like a little stupid. The cells had plenty of room to go around and most all planes went around to the south.
Not necessarily. A little altitude may have helped, but the tops of the impacting cell were almost FL430. There's a good analysis here http://www.wunderground.com/blog/stuostro/comment.html?entrynum=33
Ryan...that was a great review and the time lapse does help to understand it. Thanks !
The A320 can get to FL 390 and it was daylight/sunset. He had to see the tops in front of him and the radar had to be all red and yellow. All other planes went around it ?
There were about 80 flights near that airspace around the same time, and most of them went around the storm like you said. I did find another flight that may have had a bumpy ride, too: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/SWA3318/history/20150807/2350Z/KLAS/KCLE
Looks like the hole they were aiming for shut really fast!
