Not many of these were built... and a beautiful airliner too!
Just brilliant mate
As a kid (early 1970's) we lived under the flight path for Rwy 24 (now 23R)EGCC Manchester UK - British European Airways (BEA) operated a fleet of Vanguards (and Viscounts) which were regular over our house. The Vanguards had a very distinctive engine sound, and it was quite normal for the pilots to shut down 1 and 4 engines on final approach. I presume to save fuel, although in those days it was tuppence a gallon! BEA merged with British Overseas Airways Corp (BOAC) to become Government owned British Airways - Downhill ever since!
