Actually a C-47 ... it has an astrodome on top behind the cockpit for astro-navigation and a shortened tail cone for glider towing.
Nice shot!
Alan it's a 1944 DC-3C
Nice picture ! Thank You for posting.
From my reading on the DC-3, the civil DC-3 production ended in 1942 or early 1943 when military protection of the C-47 started. C-47 produced thru 1945. After the war Boeing produced a updated the DC-3 called the Super DC-3 with less than 10 made. I don't believe I've ever seen a Super DC-3 so if anyone knows of one in a museum, please post location.
If the one in picture was built in 1944 than it's a C-47. Most people today call then a DC-3 when seen at air shows. They are an amazing plane and I have great respect for the people who take the time and money to refurbish these aircraft and fly them to the shows.

I was blessed to be flying in a B-25 when I snapped this shot! A bucket list item for sure!!
Those Gooney Birds just don't quit.
A great photograph, pity about the plastic boats.
May they fly for ever. I had the pleasure of working on them many years ago.
Regards to all. Mel.

Same engines as the PBY.
Check out Florida's Opa-locka Executive Airport. It's home to about a dozen large propeller planes, such as Douglas Douglas DC-3s, DC-4s, DC-6s, DC-7s, C-117Ds (Super DC-3), and Convair 440s...Google "Corrosion Corner"...
What a great airplane!
