Sam... I've seen some runways like this. Much further south than your KBUF, Meridian NAS (McCain Field) has elevation differentials in their main runways.

Cliff, there are no "hills" at BUF, and the runway does not run "downhill" as steeply as it appears in this pic. I've got many, many thousands of pics taken at BUF from 1965 to the present (I was born and raised there), including at least a few thousand taken from this exact location, and I've landed and taken off from there 12 times in the past six years, the most recent being in 2014 and again just only four months ago. There is an extremely gradual rise that begins near this location because the runway extension in the later 60s went over a roadway, but the rise is nothing as dramatic as seen in this pic. The elevation differential at both ends of runway 5-23 is only 46 feet ... and 46 feet isn't much difference from one end of the 8,102 foot long runway to the other end. (BTW: The elevation differential on the other runway, 14-32, is a mere ten feet.) The camera angle makes this look to be more steep than it is, and the camera may also have been somewhat tilted.

Gary, thanks for your information. I did notice that the camera wasn't held level to the horizon, nor was much of an attempt made at any editing rotation of the image to level the horizon.

The picture is not crooked. I was at Mercy Flight today and monday and looked right at that spot and watched aircraft taxi in that area and there is a hill. Not a steep one but it does exist.
