North American Super Sabre (N2011V) - S/N 56-3948. 67 Years young. Practicing for it's last air show. Rumor has it this bird is to be retired after this weekends air show. Glad I finally got to see her. She is a thing of beauty.

One of my favorites. Remember seeing them in Thunderbirds livery at BAFB in the '60s.

Ah, the "Lead Sled", one of many aircraft to be called that I'm reliably informed. I don't think I ever got to see one fly. I was born in '63 :-).

Back seat is empty!! Should be a crime, lol!

The only thing wrong with this photograph is that I am not in the back seat...

Lots of “Huns” at Tuy Hoa AB 67-68. 31st Tactical Fighter Wing. A real work horse.

If you want to see the Hun at its best watch the movie “ Not with my wife you don’t “

I have 950 hours in the Hun. I flew this airplane a month ago on Sep 23, 2023. I had a great time with the owner and pilot Dean Cutshall. I can verify that the aircraft is going to change hands.

Beautiful!

My favorite when I was a kid. When they kicked in afterburners they would rattle windows and my Mothers China Closet. They would on occasion do a couple take off and landings at KSCH usually on the weekends. Where they came from I do not know. I think F-86 were stationed at KSCH in the fifties. Us kids would sneak under the fence and wave to the pilots...I can't believe we never got into trouble for that.

After we lost our father in the Korean Conflict in 1953 (he was an F4U Corsair pilot off the USS Princeton-CV37), we moved back to Nevada from California. There we lived in a house at Wherry(?)Housing at Nellis AFB. During our time there was when the F-100 Super Saver began flying out of Nellis and we were fortunate to witness many flyovers both taking off (full afterburner) and landings. What an aircraft! Seeing this photo brings back many memories. Thanks for sharing.

A fantastic shot, absolutely beautiful!!

how the $!!$ does that big engine breath through that tiny air intake in the nose? or is it a solution to getting air at Mach 1+ (I don't know if these were supersonic or not - out of my depth past P51s...)
Id Rocketeer
Yep. I saw the Thunderbirds in these back in the 60's. Can't say what year, but pre-66. Seems to me I saw then at a couple of airshows at Burlington, Iowa. Definitely at least one.

Raised on Nellis AFB from 1952 to 1963. Never had an alarm for the weekends as you knew it was o600 because that's when the Huns started launching on training runs.

An interesting side note about this first of a kind fighter jet… it was equipped with three completely independent hydraulic systems. To the best of my knowledge, the only one.
