Grumman E-2 Hawkeye (16-5823) - A VAW-112 "Golden Hawks" E-2C Hawkeye is captured here as it taxies along NAS Fallons taxiway Alpha. This Hawkeye, assigned to USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) when at sea and home ported at NAS Pt. Mugu, was part of a massive midafternoon training exercise launch. *Correct homeport info provided by Michael Payne.br /Ill never forget this day of spotting. The air temperature at this moment was 103 degrees. Standing in the open and being bathed in the hot exhaust from 30+ passing Navy jets meant the temperature at this location was well above 103.

I'll never forget this day of spotting. The air temperature at this moment was 103 degrees. Standing in the open and being bathed in the hot exhaust from 30+ passing Navy jets meant the temperature at this location was well above 103.

Great shot and respect for dealing with those kind of temps. It's been really hot here in socal too, I recently did a night flight to Palm Springs (KPSP) and at 9 at night when we landed the official temp that the controller gave was 99 degrees.

Mr. Schenauer, this is a great shot! Very nice!

TY, Mark, for your compli. The heat wave out here knows no borders. (And neither does the drought.)
Jim, I greatly appreciate your comment. Thank you. :-)

Great shot. Serial Number in database is incorrect though.

Bobby, my Thanks to you for spotting my error and my apologies to those who have viewed this pic for the misidentification. This one and 165821 came out in sequence and I snapped both of them. Didn't see a purpose in posting two shots of two Hawkeyes taken from the same location so I only posted this one pic ... but I misIDed it. I've corrected the reg number and also edited the info under the shot. Thanks again, Bobby.

James, I consider it an ultra special compliment that you made this comment about my photo, and I don't know any other way of showing my sincere appreciation except by saying, "Thank you very, very much." (Handshake)

Great pic, Gary. One minor correction in your narrative: VAW-112, like all West Coast-based E-2 squadrons, is homeported at NAS Pt. Mugu, CA. The West Coast VFAs are homeported at NAS Lemoore. East Coast E-2 squadrons are all homeported at NAS Norfolk, VA.
Cheers from a Naval air vet and the proud dad-in-law of an E-2 pilot :)

Hi, Michael. :-) Thanx for the correction. I'll fix it pronto on both of my pics of this one. And Happy 4th and Best Wishes to you, your son-in-law and all in your family. ... Gary S, USAF (Ret)
