10-1028 —
The unmistakeable office of the CF-101B “Voodoo” (101028) at Hillsborough, New Brunswick. The mainstay of Canada’s contribution to NORAD from 1961 to 1984, this particular aircraft ended its career with 416 “Lynx” Tactical Fighter Squadron based at Canadian Forces Base Chatham, New Brunswick. Like almost every Canadian Voodoo, this aircraft wears the “RCAF Flash” along the fuselage and nose. Note the high-power searchlight mounted on the fuselage below the “Airborne Interceptor Navigator” seat: it was used to illuminate target aircraft – often Tu-95 “Bear” – during night-time intercepts.
