ZK-LGF —
Britten-Norman BN-2A Mk3-2 Trislander (Great Barrier Airlines) flying over Auckland Bay in New Zealand on January 15, 2014.
Comments
Actually a great aircraft-I used to fly passengers in it in the 80's. One of my favorite passengers was John Glenn (Miami-Key West)
Sure is an ugly airplane though. Looks like something the Russians designed with the flat side panels. I used to see one all the time up in Port Angeles, WA (KCLM) and Boeing Field (KBFI). I was asking a pilot that flew them how they synced the props... Start with 2 outboard, then the middle one. Also, 3 engines gets you 1/2 SM standard visibility requirement for takeoff under FAR 135; a nice benefit for cargo operators. Ugly airplane, but a work-horse.
Well, beauty is in the eye of the beerholder! But seriously, a great airplane. I would like one with amphib gear (and the 2 wing engines moved to top of wing). Great RV possibilities.
