Lockheed L-188 Electra (VH-RMA)
Ansett Air Cargo Electra VH-RMA at Melbourne Airport in April 1984.
Comments
The pilots who were assigned to the mighty L188 freighters in Ansett were known as the Wombats. So maintaining their currency for night takeoffs and night landings was never an issue for them...My biggest regret is that I was too junior in the company to ever fly the mighty Electra.
As Chris and most Oz enthusiasts would know, the Wombat finally made it on the white Ansett livery.
Cheers Gavin! And as I should have pointed out, the thing about Wombats is they are ONLY active at night time. At least, so I am told.
Yeah Chris, that was the idea behind calling them 'Wombats' although I've got a couple of daytime pics operating out of here. Two have been cleaned up (one 'red', one 'white') to post on here in due course.
