Airbus sees possible future sales of 'hundreds' of 400M in U.S.

Europe's Airbus (AIR.PA) said on Thursday that it sees the possibility of selling hundreds of its A400M military transport plane to the U.S. military in the medium to long term. Barry Eccleston, president of Airbus Americas Inc, told the Reuters Aerospace and Defense Summit that the company was focused on securing additional orders for the UH-72 helicopter that it builds in Mississippi in the short term, but its "next big project" would be focused on marketing the A400M. I'm just not seeing it. From a purely military point of view it's a bad idea for a first tier nation to buy military hardware of this size and scope. This is the kind of thing that needs to be home grown.

The A400 is designed to be tough.. Strong landing gear, props instead of turbofans = ability to land on gravel and get up and stop faster...

Putting all the Nationalistic pride aside, Lockheed was right in pulling out and just coming up with the C130-J to counter a need for anything brand new and has done fairly well with. Some others have bailed out and went with Boeing's C-17 if they fit their mission. As far as the slow development, missed deadlines and cost overruns, they have their 400M and we have our F35. Both are flying somewhat but nothing is near like it was promised.
