Northrop N9MB Flying Wing

Planes of Fame Museum founder Ed Maloney obtained the flying wing in the late 1950s when the museum was opened in a former lumber yard in Claremont Ca. The plane was restored from 1981 through 1994 by the museum and owned by the Planes of Fame Air Museum in Chino Ca.

One of four flying wings this aircraft was the last remaining, originally built in 1944 as test aircraft in support of the XB-35 and YB-35 experimental bombers developed for the U.S. Army Air Forces. Sadly, the ultra-rare N-9M crashed and was destroyed at the California Norco Rehabilitation Center on April 22nd 2019, killing pilot David Vopat, 51, of Chino Ca.
