Where you reside is irrelevant. Your reply was designed to imply that his comment was moot because he didnt live in the area being discussed. My point to you is this...on any topics dealing with areas in which you arent a resident, by your own standards, you may not comment or voice your opinion. My bias is towards open forums in which opinions arent stifled and against those who would perpetrate such actions. Enough said. I cant imagine anything else being gained by continuing this debate. According to Avherald, since Jan 25 a 744 had a PW shut down, an A320 had an IAE shut down, an L410 had a GE shut down, and an A330 had a RR shut down. Doesnt seem to be limited to GE engines.

Just because its old doesnt mean its past its usefulness..i.e. KC-135, B-52, A-10. Plus the added bonus of older technology being somewhat self hardened against EMP. Granted, they are getting long in the tooth and efficiency wasnt even a word when they were built but when has the Govt ever cared about what something cost to operate? It should be interesting to see how Boeing reacts and if Trump actually cancels this or if this is just political rhetoric.

A lot of interesting comments in this article. How long is "brief"? If its a very short period of time why not just incorporate a restart into the preflight procedure? And your right...22 days is pretty impressive. They also mentioned overlapping restarts which makes me wonder if the systems restart on purpose at set intervals or if these are random events caused by something else. It points to a software glitch if a "fix" is supposed to be released to cure this but, really, why would any operator leave a critical system running without a restart for that long?
