Looks like they compare take off-to-landing times from 1973 to gate-to-gate times today. New York to Houston is ~1200 nm, flying that at 500 knots takes 2:24 hours. Today's planes capable of flying this distance in 1:24 hours at 857 knots are not really built to cater to the airlines. Hardly any of them have more than two seats.

The infamous P. Hartmann, Esq. who used to pollute this forum with his comments. Looks like he's finally been banned.

Can you explain what your post has to do with the question I asked about the subject-matter of this particular "thread"......or is this still another example of folks who come in here "because they can"....rather than having an interest in actual aircraft technical matters.... Aren't you even a bit embarassed at posting such utter nonsense ? Over and over again I get this crazy idea that aviation-minded and aviation-informed folks - people directly involved in aviation, are the ones who come in here. My mistake - as another posted, people come in here "because they can"...certainly not necessarily because they give a damn about actual aircraft operations. "Fliers" ( those who ride in the BACK of other folks airplanes, but feel a deep emotional interest in aviation ) come in here to babble ANYTHING to make themselves feel important...there is apparently some value to them, to see their words in print, with little or no interest in whether their posts contribute to our learning m

And yesterday a F-5 of the Swiss aerobatic team Patrouille Suisse crashed after two planes collided during practice for an airshow in Holland. The pilot of the first plane ejected and survived slightly injured, the other pilot managed to land his plane with a damaged horizontal stabilizer.

I find it always quite odd that English native speakers, the vast majority of whom are not able to form even the simplest sentences in any language other than their own, would consider something like this "broken English". I for one thought that Slava's very informative captions under the breathtakingly beautiful photography were the icing on the cake of a truly outstanding piece of aviation photography.
