2013 sequester screwed them the first time, as well as their original plans. Since then, they bought the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of another obscure regional airline called Aerodynamics, Inc., which has been operating as Great Lakes Jet Express out of Denver. California Pacific will continue to operate the Denver flights under their own branding while preparing to roll out their flights out of Carlsbad.
I am very interested in how the competition between Sun Country and Alaska will be. Considering that it's winter seasonal with intentions to offer service to warmer destinations during the winter months, it fits Sun Country's business model well. It's very ambitious of them to start so many routes within a short period of time.
I'm inclined to agree. Even though it's an interesting development, part of me seriously questions if this is nothing more than a mere chase for nostalgia or if they seriously intend to serve and fulfill a market demand. And based on previous revival start-ups in recent years, this new Midwest Express venture may not last long. We'll have to wait and see...
After Cal Jet by Elite Airways suspended their service recently, I really think CP Air needs to get firmly established at McClellan-Palomar and get services up and running, fast.
I'm surprised Japan wasn't mentioned in the article for comparison. Japan also has constant competition between domestic air travel and their Shinkansen bullet trains connecting their major cities. Granted there are still a few places where the Shinkansen hasn't reached yet, but when they do, competition will pick up.
"Cute" and "aviation" usually don't end up in the same sentence. But this video makes an exception! A video that should put a smile on any AvGeek's face!
Pretty sleek-looking! Hope it see's success. I bet it would be a suitable replacement aircraft for certain regional airline turboprops currently in service!
