For so long, Boeing has been telling the airlines what they need, not what the airlines wanted. They should have never destroyed the tooling for the 757.

I guess I’m just going to have to brush off my resume, and go run an airline.

Delta has a reputation for squatting. Did they same things on Haneda routes. Let them share with AS until they can commit and guarantee service to their hubs.

Well, Boeing went from an airline manufacturer to a boutique airplane maker telling its customers what they wanted to buy. With the 757 orders pretty much drying up, downplaying the Airbus assault fixing to hit the market. Boeing just decided to add a fuel tank, and a few extra rows, increase the range, they would have a best seller on their hands. They quickly destroyed the tooling. Airlines began to realize the economics of narrow body overseas flying with the 757. But, it was Airbus that was there with the closest replacement, the A321.

I'd still rather be on a 20 year old 757.

Aren't these planes going to be assembled at the Mobile facility?

Do they still park straight in, or do they park at a 45-degree angle? It seems that could make for an even faster turn. In some circumstances, the planes would be able to power out.

The captain thought he was lined up with the runway because of his comment "I can see lights on the runway". The controller responds, "Air Canada 759, confirmed. You are cleared to land on runway 2-8 Right. There is no one on 2-8 Right but you." For me, an armchair investigator, this seals the fate of the coming mishap. The pilot see lights on the runway, while he is actually looking and heading for Taxiway C. Still approaching Taxiway C, the tower confirms "and on Runway 2-8 right". No one, including the pilot and controller, knows that the flight isn't where it is supposed to be until an unknown pilot asks "where's this guy going?" Someone is now noticing something isn't quite right, a second or two late, "He's on the taxiway!" Almost 20 seconds pass until the flight receives the controllers to go around.

This is certainly a much better solution than nothing. Thanks for the post, Kevin.
