I have had the privilege of seeing this beast in person twice at Oakland International. Once in the late 80s, and in 2018.

Looks like a pregnant version of the A-340.

Leipzig is the airport the AN-225 was flying into in 2016 when it had a brief engine fire. That plane is like a Timex. Been taking a lickin since 1988 and keeps right on tickin... Love that plane.

I think this would be a great advertising slogan. 'If it fits into the belly of the whale, we'll transport it."

Good old Mriya. I saw this plane fly into Oakland back in the 90s. It was so big it made a 737 look like a Cessna. Whoever designed and built this plane should be commended on the quality and workmanship. I think the only time I have heard of a problem involving this aircraft was an engine fire on the #2 engine in 2016, but happened on landing and was only brief. Not bad for an aircraft that first flew commercially in 1988. Not to mention the only one of the type. I hope they will get the 2nd one flying soon.

This is the happiest airplane I have seen since the old PSA grinning birds.

Wonder where this pic was taken. I live under the flight path these aircraft take when they are on their way back to Miramar air station, and the racket will wake you from a sound sleep. They are impressive though, because they usually come over only about 1500 - 2000 feet up.

They can get a bit annoying though. I live about 15 miles from Miramar Marine Corps Air Station, and those things sometimes come over in flights of three or four, and the noise can get deafening. But they are a sight to behold.

Bird. "That's a funny looking creature. No feathers." Plane - "Center you're not going to believe this. Are we near Jurrasic Island?"
