How about just going back to normal. Let people travel at their own risk and without stupid masks that do not work. If flight crews are afraid, go find a job at McDonald's.

If this stupidity had been applied in the nineties Colgan 3407 would have happened ten years sooner. It was bad then given the lax standards on professionalism and performance. This will only make it worse.

The tyrants are those who act in fear or an irrational belief and almost always without looking all the facts. 1) The Danish study proved masks are statistically irrelevant in the real world. Is there a cleaner environment than an airline cabin at altitude with better circulation? 2) Distance is your only friend. Yet, masks are supposed to make you safer in a human mailing tube where there are as many as eighteen people within six feet? 3) Airlines, particularly legacy carriers, are among some of the worst run businesses in history, especially in the United States. Do they think this is going to help their case by pushing this kind of stupidity? These are the same idiots who think you can reason with a toddler or autistic child, forcing them to wear a mask.

At altitude, an airline cabin is probably the cleanest and most well-circulated environment possible. But, that's where the airline idiots are the most afraid. Pathetic.

Turbofans are far more efficient than turbojets and newer designs produce more thrust providing more bang for the buck. Airframe design as come a long ways regard to aerodynamic efficiency. Though winglets were first thought of for better efficiency even in the 1800s, long before the first flight, their application didn't exist until the 1970s and more widely used until the late `80s and they are now standard in design for reducing drag. Along the way, other changes were made such as American redesigning the tail cone on MD-80s for less drag. Yes, while fuel cost has gone up along with insurance, the two biggest cost in flying, the overall cost to the consumer has remained quite low by comparison. And, don't forget getting rid of deregulation. That changed everything.

Given how many people around Central Texas have been without electricity and even water for several days... I'm not so sure. We've not had showers since last Saturday so we're going to a hotel tomorrow when work is done to blow some travel points on a walk-in shower and an indoor pool.

It appears previous VC-25s had a navigator station. There's a fourth position that may be manned by a senior enlisted person. That's uncertain.

I didn't say free. He got the cost reduced, saving taxpayers' money. Geeze, if you had read the piece you'd learn that.

As said, there are always more than one flight crew available to fly the plane. They'll hold duty times down, likely more strict than the FAA requires for 121 operators. In all, there are over a couple dozen people who staff the aircraft in flight from security and communications down to galley workers.
