This is a major problem with todays aircraft as they have to much automation. They have multiple computers and multiple software options and pilots have to be taught to shut them off and fly these planes manually. I remember all the problems with the A320's back when they were falling out of the sky quite frequently.

I went back into my flight log and found a Jet Airways flight 9W227 from Newark to Brussels I flew on October 26th 2013. Flight was 3,803 miles in 6 hours and 10 minutes on a A330-300 thats an avg speed of 617 mph. This can be verified thru Flight Aware for that date.

I have flown transatlantic many times and on April 6th 2013 flew from New York JFK to London Heathrow on American Airlines flight 106 a B777-200ER. I keep a flight log of all my flights and this flight was 5 hours and 55 minutes from take off to land. The flight mileage was 3,530 miles, avg speed was 597 mph. I verify all my flights thru Flight Aware when I return home. This was my fastest transatlantic crossing.

My first flight on a 747 was July 1972. I flew TWA flight 904 from Jfk to Madrid. In fact I still have a photo of the aircraft on my refrigerator. It was a series 100 and held 364 passengers and the flight was very smooth and service was great. I have flown since then on 747's from Quantas, United, Cathay Pacific and British Air. Nothing beats that first flight on 1972.

I just flew American's new 777-300ER from Heathrow to JFK and its quite an aircraft. The 777 is my all time favorite aircraft as I have flown the 777-200ER on many 14 hour flights.

Give me a Boeing any day. The 747-400 777's and the new 787's are the only way to go.

I thought the show lacked a lot of actual facts. The first flight of a 707 was by Pan Am, but was in October of 1958 not June of 1964. The first flight was from Idelwild in New York to Paris, not to London and it left New York in the early evening and arrived in the early morning in Paris, not at night as the program showed it landing in London.
