hurrah: the great mass (100) of uninformed, unfocused, headline-seeking busybodies have found a new quest: lots of interviews, hearings and quotes on fox, msnbc and other places- bumper-sticker debating points- all avoiding the primal fix-it point. That would be makeing the FAA well staffed and well-paid and competent enough to be able to say when a aircraft is safe to fly. NOt allowing boeing or any other maker to cheat and shortcut the process. The world does not trust the FAA's level of integrity any more than they trust the US senate to be honest or nonpartisan.

Reform has been needed for a long time. Where the "designated representative" philosophy once worked, it no longer does, due to ever-growing shareholder pressure on aircraft manufacturers to increase profitability and business schools' emphasis on same.

I don't get it, guys. What's so wrong about getting the fox out of the hen house?
jadk
More like the hen out of the Fox house

I believe it was George Carlin who said that when you see the word "bipartisan", all it means is that a greater than usual deception is being pushed.

Just what we need (rolling my eyes)

I don't think it will pass as it stands. This has a lot of fluff and BS in it. The ODA already has many of these provisions. The Administrator already has the authority, and responsibility, to review and approve all, procedures, individuals and holders of ODA. SEC. 7. REVIEW OF HUMAN FACTORS ASSUMPTIONS, is just that a review. If you think you are doing something right and review it. It won't change the process. SEC. 10. CERTIFICATION PILOT OPERATIONAL EVALUATIONS. So a manufacture has to bring in a representative selection of pilots, foreign and domestic, with varying levels of experience? Do they take Canadian, British pilots or some small third world country?

A group of "bipartisan" Senators? suddenly experts on aviation? LOL! When Washington tries to meddle in something they do not know squat about, it gets messy. Will Rogers said it best, "Never blame legislators for not doing anything. When they do something is when they hurt people." Of course, those with a socialist mindset think government regulation is the answer to everything.
CPsarras
No, it's not the answer to everything; but it is the answer in this particular case.

So true. There is usually a knee jerk reaction every time there is tragedy or any kind, followed by those who think that the government solve all the problems and passing more laws will fix everything.

Dumb assed deal they are lucky to even know what it takes in the pointy end to make it fly. Wrong bunch to handle that.
