SAN FRANCISCO (CN) — The owner of the last small "piston airplane" based at San Francisco International Airport says airport managers are trying to force general aviation pilots to move to other airports, and illegally pulled his flight privileges as part of the plan. (www.courthousenews.com) 更多...
I'm guessing the pilot lives up in "The City" and probably has to pay landing fees in addition to his tiedown fees. Probably easier and relatively cheaper to relocate to San Carlos or Palo Alto, assuming there's room, of course. Reopen Crissy Field! :-)
This owner is acting in a most unsound manner. Small piston GA aircraft can legally operate out of big airports like JFK, ORD and others however owerns/pilots have to realize that their operations will cause huge commercial aircraft 747, 340-600 and so on take more time to taxi, take off, approach, land and taxi and hence more delays and also more pollution. There are several GA-small airports in the Bay Area on the Western side where this guy park his 180 and everybody is happy.
I don't see a problem here - I DO see a solution. I cant imagine trying to take my vehicle into a Greyhound Bus depot. Or into a train yard.
So the solution is simple. This guy with his Cessna 182 is a taxpayer. He is correct in his thinking as a taxpayer member of the public, he has every right to use a tax-ayer-financed facility.
So the solution is obvious. Why in HELL are we taxpayers paying for privately owned airline business facilities? Let them pay for their own airports, which would keep us out, as it would be their private property. Of course it might result in "fliers" having to pay the real cost of that seat on the airliner.....
I cant get my fellow taxpayers to help me run my airstrip, or subsidize my airplane...why in hell should we pay for privately owned air services ?
Yes, my prejudice is...if folks had to pay the actual cost of that seat they are sitting in, we'd have a lot less issues with airliners...
If you don't see a problem, then you are blind. This is by all account a law abiding pilot who was being targeted by an airport executive with a burr up his hind end. FAA seems to agree that there was no wrong doing on the part of the pilot/aircraft owner, and it sounds as if the current regime at SFO is back peddling to solve the issue.
If Mr. Colescott missed your point, it is only because your point has absolutely nothing to do with the article. The airport management -- operating a publicly funded airfield -- illegally falsified claims against a law-abiding citizen and refused him services to which he was lawfully entitled. If you don't see the problem there (which is precisely what you said), then you are the one who should do some re-reading.
7:05 MST 09-19-16 Hi Mr. aknorris - WAKE UP - WE ARE ON THE SAME SIDE ! Looks like my sarcasem escaped you. My fault - my apologies for not being clearer.
Yes - I am prejudiced - against bureaucrats ! Combine a bureaucrat who has a job in an airline-related activity, with a "flier"....and what happened to that guy at KSFO is a predictable result !
Of course I am not prejudiced against airliner passengers! I have been one myself from time to time.
When I use the term "flier", I am referring to a certain type of "wanna-be" who may or may not have actually ridden in an airplane. Who is justifiably overwhelmed with how exciting an experience aviation is..... - heck - aren't we all every time we yell "clear" and hit our primers....!)
The problem is - those relatively few who single out us in general aviation for their frustrations at only being bystanders to the miracle of flight.
Of course I don't know whether the particular bureaucrat in question is a "flier" - but my prejudice suggests...he is - he gets his glory out of sucking up to the airline business & having a connection to it ; expresses his jealously and resentment of us in general aviation by screwing us up any way he can.
Be assured I am NOT new to the endless struggle of those actually in aviation, who just want to be left alone, and the "fliers" of the world who resent us, write, post, publish etc. any kind of nonsense just to show how much they resent us.
As I noted elsewhere...all over the country, we are losing airports - aviation (except for the commercial airlines) is being driven out, airports closted...etc...etc. ( its been happening in Canada too....! )
That is why I proposed my "solution" - let this guy have KSFO....make his buddies pay for it !
We both know if the actual cost of taking an airline seat thru the sky was paid for by the person sitting in it, not supported by us taxpayers.....we'd have a lot less "fliers" annoying us !
