Disabled Teen Beaten Bloody by TSA Agents
When Hannah went through the metal detector at the airport, an alarm went off. Disoriented by the noise, she did not immediately cooperate with TSA agents who asked to conduct further screening. (pjmedia.com) 更多...Sort type: [Top] [Newest]
You have to feel for the young girl.....but again, the parents failed to do the right thing. Advise the airline, get the airline rep to assist with security and passage to the gate. Airlines go to great lengths for their passengers with issues and the parents should be made aware that they are responsible for making sure all TSA protocol is followed. Seen this hundreds of times, answer, oh we didn't know! Airline reps, co-ordinate with TSA to make things easier.
I agree, the parents should have planned ahead. Normally in a situation like that, TSA is informed so that when they see the passenger they conduct an alternative security procedure. But why draw blood??? There are ways of searching an uncooperative passenger without drawing blood!
From my understanding, after the alarm triggered she panicked and attempted to get away, which the Security personnel saw as resisting, and attempted to subdue her viewing her as a possible threat. It seems like they acted in good faith to the situation that was presented to them, and the entire thing could have been avoided by better planning on the families part, I feel that even one minute before a family member could have or should have made sure the TSA personnel knew that this poor girl had special needs so that when something occurred it did not create such rapid and forceful response. That is not to say she deserved this or her family should be blamed per say, but this should be a teachable moment to the public of why it is important to plan ahead if special handling maybe needed (be it Grandma needing a wheelchair, or a child with a mental or psychological disability).
Isn't it sad that its taken the lawsuit and associated lawyer assisted publicity to bring this to our attention.
All I can say is read Tim's response and mine: be informed, stay ahead of possible conflicts and ask, always ask for assisstance.....an informed CSR accompanying the girl could/would defused this in a heartbeat, even as the parents stoodby.
TSA agents are not sworn law enforcement and therefore are not allowed to detain nor physically restrain you. When situations like this happen, they are required to bring in uniformed officers for any sort of detainment activities (hence why there's airport police involved).
If the TSA brought her to the floor with injuries, she has grounds to file a criminal complaint against them for assault. The article makes it seem like the TSA was the one who became violent, but I highly doubt this was the case given she's suing the airport police department.
