UK sells 72 retired Harrier jump jets for $180m to US

Scary part is that someone had enough brains to get our hands on these birds as it will get rather pricy having to manufacture parts to keep the current fleet from becoming hanger queens. This has to be a first.

I think it would be cool if the Harriers were updated with modern weapons. I mean think about it instead of buying these jets for $180M just for spare parts we could still try to upgrade them and put them back into service. So basically it's a win win thing if we ever did use them again.

You are probably right if the weapons systems are compatible. That may well be the hangup for that aspect. The British have spent a lot of money on the GR9 model but it still may not be compatible. British press are basically say we are stealing them.

The britts say they did this to save money in one place and in another us the money from these to buy some other planes. Oh well we may have gotten a good deal after all.

International use of Canadian Tire money ended when the crews of HMCS Bonaventure and her escorts (Eight DDE/DDHs and two supply ships) used them to purchase the services of many hookers in Rio in 1966. After the banks opened the next day and the true value of the "currency" was determined, crowds of angry ladies and their "handlers" convened a "Canuck Go Home" rally dockside.
