That TAC could have belonged to anyone on that plane. Nobody except Jenni has been identified by name yet, I don't think.

I will be interested in knowing the position the starter / generator switches were in, when they find them. I wonder if they forgot to turn the Gens. on.

Very interesting information on the company that owned the jet. "Starwood" was involved in an escape plot involving one of Gaddafi's son's. Lots of shady business dealings in their past.

Based on the date in the left hand corner that TAC was issued in 2010....could have just been at the bottom of someones flight bag or trash under the seat.

Here's my question, why was a singer worth I'm assuming a lot of money flying on a 1969 Lear 25?
scubayachts
I just Blue Booked a 1969 Lear 25, $160,000! Someone in here management staff has some explaining to do!

But they burn fuel like an F-15, so it's pretty much a wash.

not really knowing what they were buying....probably saw the price, looked up the specs and said "hey that's the one we need"

Starwood, counting this one, shows 16 AC registered. There is one other 69 model Lear 25 and one other plane a couple years older. All else are various models and are newer. I am assuming by their name that Star Transportation is their niche`. Lots of folks that have money don't want the burden of maintaining a plane. By the same token, that puts the company in the public eye and under the auspices of the FAA, generally under part 135. That said, a charter operator is going to make a buck as he can, and to most it won't matter if they transport Coca Cola or Cocaine.

I see the article more or less pointing the finger on Learjets, ie Payne Stewarts and the one in CAE. Those weren't the airplanes, it's the pilots and maintenance!!!

F off with the downgrade, I'm making a point and it's valid!!!

Well, I'm lettin' jr be PF goin home so I'll just throw my 2cts worth in here on my laptop. Starting with the Payne Stewart thing in 99 thru the last they mentioned, if I count right that is a total of 30 people thru today, and that includes the 5 that died on the ground in the Mexican crash. All crashes were high profile folks which is why it was all drug up. Why a superstar was riding around in a 1969 lear that at one time had been impounded by the DEA I don't know, but to me, a well maintained 1969 aircraft will fly just as good as one off the assembly line. I am like THRUSST. If you don't keep it up, or have a piss poor driver up front, it don't matter what type aircraft it is, eventually it will bring you down!!!!!!

I was very familiar with N47BA, Payne Stewart's. In the 90's when it was based in MMU, it was maintained meticulously, appearance and mechanical. The chief pilot at that time was a retired NJ State Trooper, an excellent pilot. He learned Lears from the guy that taught the ABE FSDO about Lears, and I learned from the guy he taught.
When Breed Automotive shut the flight dept. down, the airplane went to Sun something out of VRB I think. The guy that owned that company did Lear and Citation type training, and you could literally buy a type rating from him. That being said, these airplanes are old but solid, and if they are maintained and flown by a competent crew, then they are just as fine as the 787 rolling out of Everett now...

Agree, maintenance is key. Recent tours in a DC3 around San Francisco bay that was older than most on FA. Condolences to the familes.

The below link shows a copy of a crumpled up TEMPORARY AIRMAN CERTIFICATE found in the wreckage of the crash. If I am interpreting it correctly the certificate appears to limit the pilot to VFR operations only (LearJet & HS-125) and prohibits carriage of passengers.

Somebody has the ATC comms?

The provider of the MMRY feed at LiveATC chimed in, so it may be at the archives there. Sad event nonetheless..

Interesting, the company that owns this aircraft filed suit against the DEA over an aircraft forfeiture on April 18, 2012. The limited amount of information provided does not indicate if the forfeited plane is the one that crashed nor does it indicate if the case was resolved.

Sonunds like there may be a whole lot more here than what's being told. As all are dead, that's probably part of the story we'll never know, other than there will be a whole lot of speculation, as she was no angel herself.

This is gonna be a strange one. A 20 series Lear should have been above 30000 feet in 10 minutes, yet seems to have hit terrain in the 4000 to 6000 foot elevation range somewhere around Iturbide MX. Most of the terrain around Monterrey MX. is above 6,000 ft. and the field elevation is about 1500 ft. Toluca is almost 8500 feet, and in a valley. Having flown some 15 years for the same Dallas based box company, with a significant amount of business with maquiladora's and Mexico flying, Mexico has no shortage of cummulo-granite and ATC is not what you are used to in the states. Gotta be a catastrophic, as I can't imagine any flight crew, let alone U.S based, out there wandering around in the dark. Some very unforgiving terrain!

It seems the same jet was in an incident back in 2005 resulting in "substantial" damage. How close is "substantial" to "complete loss"?

NTSB Identification: DFW05CA174

White Industries is beyond substantial! A boneyard I suspect that has been instrumental in recovering more then one airplane from the dead.

Daniel's link below shows that the jet was at 28,000 within about 15 mins, and it was still there at cruise more than half an hour later.

A lot depends on what they were told to do and if they made a mistake in there headings and such. To speculate on why without recorders to prove what was said its a waste of time trying to figure it out unless you know how to do it.

Lots of Part 135's carry celebrities in LJ25's that were built in the early 70s or late 60's.
dadman522
OK? the last flight path registered here was 8/31/12? The pilot temp license showed on AP photos to be VFR only not permitted to carry passengers??? There was no declaration of emergency before the crash? One of the pilots was 78? It's not normal in MX for a pilot over 70 to fly? The plane "fell" from 27K to 9K where they lost the signal? WOW, I'm not a pilot and new at following all this, but this really looks and sounds disappointly disturbing for fans AND family alike!
