The crash of a 767 Lauda Air craft in 1991 was an important event in Mr. Lauda's life. It was his airline, and he was a trained pilot. He went to Boeing and demanded simulator time. He more or less proved that the aircraft had an equipment problem that pilots couldn't overcome. Boeing subsequently added safety features to its 737, 757,767, & 777 aircraft. As someone who had survived a near fatal race car crash, safety was of extreme importance to him.
