I wonder what would have happened if it went off in the cargo compartment?
probably pax freaking out and just a bunch of damage to other people's bags, and the events in reverse order (flight first, then luggage and pax quarantine second). If the bag were stuck between other bags, you probably wouldn't have heard it, and if it was really unlucky to be on the outside, it wouldn't have caused any structural damage anyway.
