That will put the wind up Emirates. Mind you all carriers have to be concerned of such a big leap using twin aircraft. I can remember the PAN AM record breaking non stop flight around the world in a Boeing 747b-121 and then again using a baby jumbo Boeing 747sp21 jet always loved PAN AM and miss her

World's toughest economy class passengers.

I've done a 14+ hour flight from Hong Kong to Amsterdam; the economy seating isn't that bad due to removal of rows to allow for maximum fuel. It is quite annoying to watch several movies, eat a meal and still have many hours of flight time remaining. Not sure how they make money since fuel doesn't pay any airfare.

When one boards one of these record setters, keep in mind that ETOPS is all about the odds. And big airline money. There was a reason the early over water birds had a lot of engines. It wasn't All about the thrust. Think about that as you read the latest MH post about a Boeing engine shutdown. Apparently AB's ,in his sphere, don't have them. Just sayin.

Only ten hours less than in a C130 from SAT-AKL

Methinks Matt Jensen was in the military ;-) And damn, SAT-AKL is a long long long way. You do it with midair, or island-hopping?

How about Santa Ana,San Fran Hawaii,Midway,Wake Island,Tachikawa,Japan,Kadena,Okinawa.in a RD5 1959 ? Same plane all the way.

Yep - sixty years ago in one of the first C130's. Island hopping all the way. First time took us 30hrs, later we improved that to 25hrs - better fuel management and loads.

There were four pilots on board as well as 15 cabin crew who served 1,100 cups of tea and coffee, 2,000 cold drinks and 1,036 meals during the flight.

How many pax?

Air India's Delhi-San Francisco flight claims the world's longest by flying distance but when measured on the surface of the earth Doha and Auckland are further apart.

Does that 'on the surface' measure the ups and downs of the terrain overflown?

Am reminded of the statistic in a Chevy's (Mexican Restaurant) ad: Voted best Mexican in an internal poll.
AlexHodgins
By "on the surface" they mean a straight line from city to city. The Air India flight doesn't fly the shortest distance between the two cities, instead it flies a longer route with a better tailwind so that they actually get there faster.

Are you working on your points toward your troll demerit badge? The first line was a quote from the article- I didn't make it up, someone else did. Your reference to nocturnal emissions is inappropriate. And, it is Joel; Joe is my late father.

Dick Rutan flew further by far...who thinks up these titles?

Don't understand why airlines brag about having the longest torture session. Any air travel longer than 4 hours in economy class is a miserable experience.

I travel to Manila, Philippines from New York frequently with Philippines Airlines (PAL). The PAL 777 300 stops over at Vancouver, then to Manila, 16 hours average time. Don't know why they can't go direct with the 777, in fact, PAL claims they need the A350 for nonstop flight from New York to Manila - sounds like an excuse based on politics.

Anyway, PAL is notorious for its horrible quality of services, I've experienced this to be true. But, when booking a flight, seat selection is open, consequently, picking a flight with a high probability of getting an empty adjacent seat is great!

So, my point, "World's Longest Flight" claim is useless without information about passengers well being...

Lol oh ya. That's what I thought.

Bit of a wanking match going on between QR and EK about the longest flight between Doha/Dubai and AKL..comments welcomed..

is it likely there will be sufficient passenger demand to make this route profitable?
geebee01
Does it matter any more..? Who cares which airline has the longest flight ? Boeing/Airbus are competing in the long range market-but the fares offered by the airlines will determine who flies on their planes and whether it is worthwhile buying these aircraft..

How about flight 921 going against the winds? They get to sit in the plane for an hour more.

I believe Emirates plans a Dubai-Panama City Panama non stop. I do not know whether this has started but was another one claimed as the longest non stop. I would think that the measure is great circle NM.

So who thought up the title...it's not the world's longest flight, or even the world's longest flight unrefueled.

The Final Frontier of Long-Haul Flying?

Qatar’s Doha-Auckland Route is now the longest nonstop in the world. But what is the final frontier of long-haul flying, and will we ever get there? Plus, a list of the ten longest flights.

Qatar Airways is the new titleholder for the world’s longest regularly scheduled airline flight.

The airline on Sunday inaugurated service on the 9,032-mile route between its Doha hub and Auckland, New Zealand. Flight time on the route is 16 hours, 10 minutes, on the New Zealand-bound leg.
