"The bomber was not carrying a combat payload at the time of the incident and the crash caused no damage on the ground, the defence ministry said. "

That means that the aircraft had a full load of bombs and that the damage on the ground was beyond description.

Russian mentality is interesting: Brilliant when necessary, pragmatic 'good enough' rest of the time.

Right, but I'm still thinking that flying a TU-95 half-way round the world is more of a sentence than a job.

Once again the media gets it wrong on stories relating to aviation, this time referring to the TU-95 as a "Jet"... Ho hum.

Could be worse, they could have called it a 'hybrid', given that turboprop aircraft such as TU95 use turbine engines, technically a 'jet' or are they piston engines? Can never tell with these relics!

How can you say that about the Texan, wonderful sound coming from propeller tips ablaze breaking Mach 1 specially when diving. Another beautiful sound is given by most R-2800 driven planes i.e DC-6, CV440 (both muffled by the exhaust pipe). I can´t wait to go to Canada and get on board Buuffalo's C-46s, same R2800 engines but totally different sound; they tell that afer a couple of take offs inside the cockpit enduring the unbearable roar plus all rivets vibrating out of this world you need to see an ear doctor. Can't wait. And I agree sith you that the P-51(and the P-38 too, mind you) pulled by the wonderful Allison engines emit a beautiful sound.

Oh I hear you, brother. I guess its the prop tips and not the engine. She has a pleasant rumble on taxi and groans a bit in cruise, but the sound of take off is just an awful sound to me. Its as irritating as a twin with props out of sync. It's a fingernails on the blackboard kind of thing. Nevertheless, the SNJ is a fine airplane and she'll do in a pinch.

A Stearman with 450hp R985 makes that same sort of sound sound (prop tips), but somehow it's a little more tolerable -- maybe because it climbs out a bit quicker and that sound is over sooner. It all makes me think of airshows I've been to, and by the way, if you get a chance to see the Brietling Jets, do it. They have a fantastic show. Saw their show at Sun N' Fun earlier this year, and a few weeks ago ran into the team again in Times Square NYC.

Several crashes of Russian military planes have been reported recently and the apparent reason is too many hours flown by tired planes that received inadequate maintenance only because Putin wants to scare/impress the West. Wonderful.

I flew on a TU-154 from Frankfort to Riga in 1995. She looked very heavy to me. As I recall it had a kind of corrugated metal rudder that reminded me of a Ford Tri-Motor - didn't exactly fill me with tons of confidence; I kept thinking about aero flutter. Some of the fittings in the cabin looked like cast-iron (no kidding). When we landed in Riga, all the passengers broke out into very enthusiastic applause, which made me think I should have been more worried that I was already. I can only imagine how primitive the TU-95 must be - its been around since 1952, and I believe "upgrade" means something different there.

the avro shackleton is contra-rotating rolls Royce griffons, its just as loud as the turboprops

I am a devotee of low frequency rumble from piston engines like Wright R-3350s mounted on Super Connies and flying 2 to 3,000 ft overhead, ditto B-17s, that is music to my ears. I have never been close to this Russian beast only videos on You Tube, she also emits a wonderful rumble in spite of being a turbo-prop job.

Yep, love the round sound from the ground ... except for a T-6. For some unknown reason I simply can not like the sound of that A/C. Never flown one, though. Been right seat in B-25 a couple of times - head phones help, but that beast is truly loud. Nothing like an in-line P-51 from inside, though. I guess I'll always "hear" that sound and I may never stop smiling.

being a direct drive gearbox im guessing its got the same howl as a Mu-2, Fairchild Metro, or a Commander 690

Not really, actually it is a low frequency rumble, there are a number of videos on You Tube that you can watch, try this one for starters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q-2dfEc70gU

Likely so, with the addition of a serious roar produced by huge contra-rotating props. I'm willing to bet that it induces some sort of harmonic vibration in your fillings.

No more fillings, I had the whole "keyboard" replaced long ago (LIMAO)

As did I, but I remember when .... LOL

The sound I the t-6 you mention comes from the tip of the propeller breaking the speed of sound... Thousands of sonic booms a minute making that annoying bumblebee sound
