More than half of TransAsia's ATR pilots suspended due to bad test results.

提交時間:

Taiwan's aviation regulator said 10 of TransAsia's 49 ATR pilots had failed oral proficiency tests on handling the aircraft during engine failure. A further 19 pilots did not take the test, due to sickness or because they were not in Taiwan, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said. The 29 pilots who failed or did not take the test have been suspended, the CAA said. (www.msn.com) 更多...

Just unbelievable! I don't know what could make the oral test so hard, or are the pilots truly lacking knowledge. Maybe we'll get to see some of the sample questions when they're released.

It is hard to believe the airline didn't know what was going on and condoned a Weekend at Bernie's in the right seats.

I have always said that Americans mostly don't realize that foreign carriers are a crapshoot. Most think they are all the same. Good luck with that.

I agree. I believe, for the most part, that once you get away from the North American carriers, Northern European carriers, and select Middle East and Pacific Region carriers its a much different level of safety. As you said, all are not the same.

Sounds like a good day to call in sick, if you ask me :-)

Well, the article says that those that didn't take it were suspended.

[This poster has been suspended.]

Sad part is Mike, that for basic flight skills and such, they are. After they start flying at home and go under their own regulatory bodies is where the trouble starts. For most of the oriental and 3rd world countries, it would be a loss of face to admit the couldn't handle such as that.

Got to be a problem with the initial type training, since for most pilots we seem to remember most all of what you are given in your type training. But you cant remember what you was never given to remember. Seems to be a lot of pilots stalling when they try to turn back to the airport in multi engines.
I was always told altitude and airspeed then turn back.

It would be interesting to see where they obtained their initial training. Look for patterns.
