He's got a few other commercial air related comics that he links to at the bottom of that comic linked in the article. Awesome stuff.

I thought it was funny and the statement about the tailwind...it is how I have felt when some of my flights are shortened by 30 minutes or so....I have thought it, just not said it out loud!

the post includes a warning for the humor impared and about the dirty words... those with a reading imparement were obviously negatively impacted by the severity of the content. i personally did the sophomoric thing, read the cartoons and wet my pants.. sorry my seat must now be changed by the maintenance crew and the flight delayed.

I was unpleasantly surprised to find this promently promoted on this site. I certainly hope it is not a sign of things to come. There are plently of trash sites where it would be fitting.

Trash? The Oatmeal is far from trash. You may not find it funny, which is fine (weird, but fine.) But, just because you don't find it humorous, does not mean it is trash.

If it has dirty words, then don't publish it. By the way, I did not read it.

"Sophomoric" is defined as "exhibiting great immaturity and lack of judgment" . . . sounds about right to me.

To all the guys who are whining about this: Do you all bathe in starch?? I ask because you're a bunch of stiffs!!!!! Loosen up a bit, take the stick out of your butts! If you all think swearing and jokes should not go together and that it is immature, get out from underneath your rocks and live a little! The best stand up comedians in the world made their livings by swearing. Richard Pryor and Eddie Murphy being the best of them! You ever watch Robin Williams, Night at the Met?? Do yourself a favor and watch it. If you don't laugh, call 911 and have them check you for a pulse!

Thank you for your service in the USA. I served in the USAF. It's good to know that your vocabulary has improved since leaving the military.

My opinion that this is sophomoric doesn't have anything to do with "potty" language. I spent 23 years in the Army and I could, with words alone, turn all your faces bloody red! No, my objection is based on the fact that this is seventh grade humor, without one ounce of sophistication. In a "Leave It To Beaver" world, Eddie Haskell would love it . . . Wally Cleaver, not so much.

The Oatmeal is one of the funniest web-comics around. Always something funny.

I laughed, a little, but agree it has no place on this forum. The only thing going through my mind was the tailwind announcement. As you can see from these responses the day of this type announcement is not too far away. Hopefully it will have lost its shock value by that date and something new will arrive.

The most awesome thing I heard on an airplane: "We're going up!" The woman sitting behind me was blind and had never been on a plane before. This was the start of the conversation she had with the people sitting beside her, both pilots. It really warmed my heart to hear them explaining everything to the woman.

It was very cool. It was on a trip from El Paso to Austin on SWA. I know it's rude to eavesdrop, but I couldn't help myself. And it made my day.

Just landed in my mailbox this AM. Similar to eating peanuts, couldn't stop at just one, and spent half an hour on the site - never had seen it before.
It is pointed, everyday humour, based on fact, in language that (obviously) everyone can understand. The airline industry uses a lot of euphemisms to avoid direct statements, avoid liability issues, and decrease costs. It's great to poke it with a stick every once in a while.
Thoroughly enjoyable.

Think what you want, but this site shouldn't be lowered to accept the language included in some of these jokes. I'm sure there are plenty of web sites totally dedicated to "trash talk". I was under the assumption this site was dedicated to aviation.
alistairm
alistairm 0
Which site are you talking about? No, Oatmeal is obviously not dedicated to aviation. Though, the jokes are related to aviation. I am not sure what the issue is?
jmcnelis
Joey McNelis 0
I believe Don is referring to the FlightAware site, not the Oatmeal.

How he thinks these things are "trash talk," though, I'll never understand. And how a few "bad words" (I put it in quotes, because I don't feel that there are any bad words, only bad people that have a problem with language) would lower this site, well, it makes no sense. Some people are just stuck "back in the day," I guess.

It says a lot about adults today. We don't have many. This is grammer school humor and not very funny.
we0209
It is funny because most of it is unfortunately too true...

I remember flying with a flight attendant, back in the day, between CMH and MDW...funniest SOB I ever heard (for a flight attendant)...said something to the effect that the seat cushions could be used as a flotation devices and in the unlikely event of crash, hold on to the seat cushions, "...'cuz we want 'em back..."....we all laughed like fools...dude was gone several weeks later...fired...I guess he was too funny for gawd bless AW!

The airline humor is great...we all say it...some just don't like to read it...thanks for the laughs!
