The Icelandair Group Acquires Low-Cost Rival WOW Air

提交時間:

The Icelandair Group has agreed to acquire the entire share capital of low-cost rival Wow Air. Under the plans, both carriers will remain separate carriers but will be under the same group's umbrella. This is a big step for the transatlantic market as now the carriers have a combined market share of 3.8%, creating opportunities for both companies to fight off stronger competition in the market. this is a strange marriage, in that WOW has abysmal customer service/attitude, whereas Icelandair is a far more pleasant company to deal with. Look for conflict of cultures to pop up soon.

Icelandic air isn’t that glamorous, themselves are approaching how a low cost airline operates.

I just didn't see the room for two independent Icelandic carriers.

And to be honest I didn’t even know WOW air flies to Icaland as well until I am in Reykjavik. Icelandic’s fair was cheap enough I didn’t do much homework on looking elsewhere, WOW’s were just 20-30 bucks chaper when flying from Denmark.

I needed a One-Way ticket to Amsterdam,Netherlands in a hurry. I chose Icelandic Air. From Reykjavik I transferred on an Icelandic Air flight to Luxemburg where I was able to catch the Paris to Amsterdam express train. I reached the U.S. Embassy on time. Icelandic Air was nice enough to issue a One-Way ticket. U.S. Airlines would not issue One-Way ticket. You have to buy a round-trip ticket. I spent 3 months in the Netherlands working on an important case. I returned on a One-Way ticket with EL-Al Airlines. In short Icelandic Air took care of me. My cousin just came back from the Netherlands and used WOW Airlines. Airfare is reasonable.
