Heathrow 13 to be sentenced
The 13 activists who cut through a perimeter fence and chained themselves to Heathrow’s northern runway are likely to become the first climate change protesters to be jailed in the UK when they are sentenced this morning, despite the support of prominent politicians. They endangered the lives of the people on the flights that had to divert. What right do they have to face airliners to divert? Mere jail time is too lenient. Perhaps they should do airliner waste tank servicing for a few months as a bonus.
Good....Sick of these hand wringing bed wetting tree huggers..
5-10 years, depending on who was the instigator
Even though my career is in aviation, I sympathize with these protesters and am personally glad that they didn't receive jail time. Non-violent protests have proven to be an important and effective display of civil unrest for centuries. The Boston Tea Party, and Selma March are examples of this which effected profound changes in our history. And although there is no arguing that what they did was illegal, their crimes were not meant to harm anyone, or for personal gain. Quite the contrary actually. They were fully aware of the potential consequences of there actions, but were willing to sacrifice their personal freedom to bring attention to (what they obviously consider) an injustice on society.
They didn't just protest, they destroyed property, interfered with air commerce, disrupted business, and caused much monetary loss and inconvenience. The reasons for their protests can be admired but their actions should be condemned. I neither sympathize or admire them.
I'm not a big admirer of many Eco-demonstrators...BUT, "destroyed property, interfered with air commerce,
disrupted business, and caused much monetary loss and inconvenience"....I'd say that as far as climate change
goes, you ain't seen nothing yet.... :P
