Flying from the Motor City to Sin City should get easier come this fall, officials said today.

Southwest Airlines Sept. 30 will begin offering a nonstop flight from Detroit Metro Airport to Las Vegas' McCarran International Airport, according to airport officials.

“Las Vegas is one of Detroit’s largest passenger markets and more service on this route means more options for our customers,” said Wayne County Airport Authority Senior Vice President of Planning and Development Marcus Kemper in a statement.

The new flight from the Dallas-based airline will run Monday through Saturday departing from Detroit at 10:55 a.m., arriving in Las Vegas at 12:25 p.m. local time. On Sunday, the flight leaves Detroit at 9:30 a.m. and arrives in Las Vegas at 11 a.m.

From Las Vegas, the flight leaves at 12:15 p.m. and arrives in Detroit at 7:15 p.m. Monday through Saturday. On Sunday, the flight leaves Las Vegas at 12:50 p.m. and arrives at 7:55 p.m. in Detroit.

Round-trip flights from Detroit to Las Vegas for the summer range from $400 to more than $600, according to Expedia.com.

Southwest is offering a $99 one-way fare sale for the new route through Feb. 27. But tickets have to be bought for travel between Sept. 30 and Nov. 2.

“Las Vegas is Detroit’s third largest travel market with over 1,000 passengers flying each direction every day,” said Joe Cambron, WCAA Director of Air Service Development. “But since more than 90% of those passengers flying this route are Detroit-area residents, it is our largest market for local travelers and a priority for the Airport Authority.”

Southwest is the airport’s second largest carrier in terms of passengers flown, according to the authority.

According to Expedia, Delta Airlines also offers a nonstop flight to Las Vegas from Detroit.
