In addition to the 14 new routes from Austin, American is upgrading its service to Nassau and Los Cabos to year-round after the success of the summer-only seasonal flights.

Not only are these additions indications that American is looking to add potential focus cities, but it appears they are aiming to tap into surging urban areas in hopes of attracting new customers. Austin has seen a boom in tourism and move-ins, as many Californians flock to Texas for lower taxes and a strong tech industry rivaling Silicon Valley. In fact, just as the airport is growing in passengers, the city itself saw the highest positive increase in population growth in 2020, of three percent.

This now leaves Austin with 21 routes by all airlines that will be operational by the end of the year. Alaska Airlines is adding Boise and Palm Springs service, Allegiant is adding Fayetteville service, Southwest is adding Sarasota, Pittsburgh, and Columbus service, and KLM is even adding Amsterdam service. This not only bodes well for the city of Austin, but it looks like these routes are lining up to be incredibly popular.
