EasyJet Orders 30,000 Lightweight Seats from Recaro

EasyJet, a European low-cost carrier, announced it was ordering 30,000 lightweight Recaro seats for both existing aircraft and new planes.

The airline has been using the Recaro Aircraft Seating SL3510 seat in new aircraft over the past two years. The seat weighs 40% less than competing seats according to the manufacturer and the new model will come with a tablet PC holder.

The seat provides “enhanced living space” according to Mark Hiller, Recaro Aircraft Seating’s CEO.

Going forward, EasyJet will only use Recaro seats in its planes and it plans to retrofit its fleet of 56 Airbus A320s with more than 10,000 of the SL3510 model. The order calls for 20,000 seats for the airline’s 100 new Airbus A320neo aircraft and EasyJet has an option for 20,000 more seats for an additional 100 new planes.

“The SL3510 won us over with its combination of increased space, lightweight design and reduced number of components,” said Warwick Brady, the carrier’s chief operating officer.

EasyJet currently offers more than 600 routes in over 30 countries. The carrier has a fleet of over 200 Airbus aircraft.
