McDonnell Douglas MD-88 (N984DL) - One of my best pictures of the MD-88. N984DL rockets off the runway. A sight and sound that will be sorely missed. As of this upload the fleet is down to less than 30 airplanes. Best plane to ever fly in my opinion!

With the funky 'gravel bar' on the front wheel. I don't think I've ever seen it on any other plane. But the original DC was designed to operate on gravel and 'rough' fields, as a 'regional jet'. Quite a history.

An older pilot I ran into said that the DC's were so 'over designed' that they would 'last forever'. Pretty much. It was a damn well designed plane. The longevity speaks highly to that. I'm sure there were some changes in the MD's to lighten them up, etc, but it's still the same basic design. When it works, why change it.
