That monster has been flown since the late 70s, primarily by old WARSAW Pact nations. Most recently Russia and Ukraine have been using them. Heavily armoured, chin cannon, underwing pylons can arm it like an airborne tank, ans a couple of squards of commandos ride behind the pilot and gunner. In the 80s US-supplied Stingers dropped many in Afganistan, but an even greater number are falling to manpads across Ukraine since a year ago.I'd never want to see one coming headon, sparkling under the nose.
The helicopter in the picture is actually a MI24 for some reason in few publication the designation MI 25 is used. If one Googles MI25 the results show MI 24's
Essentially the same helicopter. The Mi-25 is just the export version of the Mi-24.
We should have a dozen of them posted along the Mexican border dropping No Vacancy pamphlets !
Excellent thought J Delong !
I would love to see one of these in person. The Russian/Eastern Block aircraft have always be of interest to me, growing up as a USAF Brat
