Airbus A320 (N210FR)
For the first time in ten years, a regularly-scheduled FFT flight arrived in Reno at four minutes after "straight up high noon" yesterday when N210FR, Frontier's "Sheldon the Sea Turtle," touched down on Reno Tahoe International's 16R.
Comments
Just two years ago, there were only five airlines providing regularly-scheduled passenger flights out of RNO: American, Delta, Horizon/Alaska, Southwest, and United. As of yesterday, there are now nine. Allegiant, Frontier, jetBlue, and Volaris have all started regular pax flight service in the past two years. Thomas Cook almost launched direct service to Europe; however, the US Customs Service balked at having to quickly add additional agents and the Cook service was cancelled about a month before it was supposed to launch. However, the wheel of government bureaucracy has continued to turn (slowly, true, but steadily) so Frontier is not going to be the last new airline here; it is only the newest one on a list that will get longer. We will never see the level of traffic, the wide variety of airlines, or the many varied models of airliners that the big cities enjoy seeing, but with 24 fine spotting locations we are able to get great clicks of the flights that DO come here. Welcome back, Frontier. (And next year, we will be welcoming ... .)
** Envoy (American) and SkyWest (Delta & United) also provide affiliated service.
