One of the only helicopters as I've been aboard that had a center aisle between the seats.
It is a massive aircraft! I didn't get to see it take off but I was on the freeway and saw it from about a mile away after it departed and was in aw at the size of it even from that distance.
Paul... the S-61 was often used in the Gulf for crew changes on the deep water semi-submersible drilling rigs and platforms where long duration over water flights were the norm. I believe Chevron also operated a fleet of this type helicopter from one or more of their bases to service their production platforms. By now, I suspect most have been retired for newer designs like the Sikorsky S-92.
