Now ya talkin' Bobby. 5 stars is nowhere near enough for this pic. That livery is magnificently caught in that light.
My father flew, and loved, these planes. I have a model of this exact plane on my bookshelf.
A few years back I was in the back of a plane with another passenger who turned out to be a P47 pilot in WW2. What a treasure trove of stories! I asked him about his opinion of P-51's. He wrinkled up his nose, snorted, then replied "Spam cans?" That was his answer...lol
Must be true -- KCNO Planes of Fame has P-51D Mustang "Spam Can"
Can someone coment on the bad reputation of the turbo as installed on these P-47 R2800s earning the sobriquets of Widow Maker or Flying Coffin as the apparently gave a lot of trouble, which runs opposite of the enormous reputation of the R2800s as installed on the DC-6Bs.
@chalet: could not find anything on Wikipedia for issues with the R2800 or P-47 as you describe.
